Yes, Ubuntu is a distribution of Linux. A specialized version of you will, with it's own package management and configurations and whatnot. It's been touted as very user friendly. There are hundreds of different varieties of Linux out there, some extremely specialized for certain uses. I have run a variation of Ubuntu myself, and it's not bad, just wasn't what I was looking for, so I went with another distro. Always glad to see someone giving it a try though, I have run it in one form or the other for about the last 5 years.

Look. vvvvvvvvvvvvv There are a gazillion versions of Linux. That is why I lawl'd. Ubuntu is just one of the more popular.

I use ubuntu at work and I havent switched back to XP since because it sucks balls. and if you REALLY need to use win xp for whatever just go to http://www.virtualbox.org and download virtual box and install XP as a VM. Since at work I still have to use some software that is only compatible with XP its the easiest way to do it.

I will give you copies of Kubuntu 7.10 and Linspire 5.03 with unlimited licenses for $10...thats a steal!!

Personally I just use an nlited copy of XP. XP runs suprisingly well after you stip it of all the unessecary crap
