Any doberman owners?

I was just viewing the "right dog" thread but didn't want hijack, so I was wondering if any of you have owned a dobie. I have heard American Dobermans have a lot of inbreeding which causes them to turn on you down the line, but that Euro Dobies lack that characteristic. Any truth to this? I have also heard they are very loyal dogs. Do they require a lot of attention? What should I know before going into this?

I have two dobermans now and I have owned very many of them since I was a kid. My family used to breed and raise them...Not sure about this characteristic, but they are great animals. Some of the easiest dogs to work worth from my experience, they catch on quick, they are extremely loyal. They can become very protective so you will want to be careful with how much lead way you give them in that area. Raise one responsibly and you should be a happy dobie owner...

I have one now and have had many growing up. I have never heard of them turning on you. They are very loyal and want to be with you ALL the time. They can be a bit vocal if they dont get what they want, but are very easy to train.

Be careful too, because they WILL protect you if they feel it is needed.

What do you mean by this?

I had one 6 years ago. I loved that dog, but she like to bite me and other people. lol
Playfully or mean? Did you have to get rid of her?

any dog can "turn" on you...

what i mean is, if they become attached to your girlfriend/wife or you or your kid or something, they can become overly protective to the point where no one in the family can approach that person without the dog going on the defensive. Teach them how to be protective properly and draw the line for them...big powerful dogs are a giant commitment...

I work 20 hours a week and go to school Tuesdays from 1-3:30 and 6-8, Wednesday from 6-8 and thursday from 1-3:30. I think I would have enough time for the dog, but want to make sure i can care for him properly before I buy him and possibly neglect him

My cousin has a king doberman named Chino. That dog is so chill. It is kind of creepy. It is like a human. Sometimes it just sits and looks all sad on the couch. I think I have only heard it bark a couple times and it is very good with children and smaller dogs. It can be messed with alot and it never seems to get annoyed enough to act on anything.

I have heard the rumor that the reason some of them turn on you when they get older is that there brain grows too big for their skull and it causes them to turn mean. I have no clue if this is true. I do know they do not have a very long lifespan though......

Oh mostly playful, but she was mean sometimes! Mom just got tired of her, I came home from school one day and my sweet Cheeba was gone. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
