Any bow hunters?

I was talking with my girlfriend the other day and she talked about wanting to learn how to shoot a bow. I was surprised by this. Shes an indoors person and i come from a pretty outdoors family. Ive shot (really cheap ***) bows off and on for a while but ive never shot a compound yet. So im asking if anyone has any experience in choosing draw weight or anything else. Im not looking to spend over 150 on the bow because i give it a month before she gives up on it. So im looking for a bow that we both can shoot so i can learn and teach at the same time and keep using if she gives up.

My buddies 14 yo boy just started pulling 40 lbs, so you may want to start her around that draw weight. If it's your first compound, you should start there too. That way you can get used to the let off, peep sight, kisser button, etc, while you are aiming and holding. Usually, you can find a bow that pulls from 40-55, which you can give to her once you get the hang of it, and you can move to a bow pulling 55-70. Maybe try craigslist, or a local archery range will normally have trade-ins, plus they usually have an indoor range to test before you buy. Also a good place to check out on league nights, as she can meet like minded women who shoot, and may keep her interest!

By far the best thing to do is to take her to Bass Pro Shops, Cabellas, or even Wal-Mart. Anywhere they sell bows for her to try in person. She will be able to choose the draw length and weight that's comfortable to her. I have a PSE at the moment.

Bows aren't cheap. Think I've seen them for 500 plus or take a little. They can get up there in [price. Slo ride has a good idea. Then after that, see if you can find a used one in good shape. Unless you feel like spending lots of $$ then a new one is for ya.

Your not gonna turn into Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games, played by Jennifer Lawrence) or Rambo are ya?!

No no i would never do that *cough cough*

And ive been looking at prices locally for used stuff but theres only like professional grade bows. Im looking for the harbor freight special with a cam thats about to fall off. I dont want to spend much because after she tries it for a while she might just give up and then it wont get used.

If my memory hasn't failed, I remember "Bear" being a top brand back in the day (mid 90s-early 2000s). My first and only new compound was about $100 flat so I can't imagine a beginner bow being more than $69.99 today. If there's a ****'s in your area, shop online and find a match then bring it to the store. They'll price match. Or find a beginner bow on amazon, see if Walmart carries it, then have them price match it. 30-40lb sounds like a good starter. If you want to be cheeky, you could get into longbows for $15 but that might be tough. No broadhead arrows. Keep it simple for now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/santa.gif.e1ec9cf2e0a0dd232ad35aa594a126d0.gif

Alright guys thanks for the help. Ive singled it down to a SAS Scorpii. Its 30-55 lb draw and a 19-29" draw length. It comes with nice sights and i think it should have everything im looking for.
