Another engine whine thread

I had my system set up the same for about a year. I have never gotten any engine whine. Then about two weeks ago I had a new head unit installed at a shop. It was fine for two weeks but the other night while listening to my system all of the sudden I got this horrendous noise through all of the speakers. It was far louder than the music and sounded like one of those emergency alert tones on TV but with static too. I had to pop the faceplate off to shut it off immediately.

Next morning I fired up the car and now have horrendous engine whine. It is in both the front and rear speakers. I disconnected the remot on each amp (the front and rears are on different amps) and the engine whine was still in the working amp. With the car off it sounds fine. There's the background, now I have a few questions.

1. Since the shop didn't tape off the ends of the speaker wires off of the head unit (The preouts are used going to amps) could those wires touching ground cause damage to the head unit that would result in this?

2. The headunit front output is connected to a graphic eq and electronic crossover. If I disconnect the head unit output from the input on the EQ the engine whine goes away. Does this mean I can isolate it to the head unit being the problem?

3. What would you do first?

Thanks,

Justin

Did you get it installed locally ?

If so by who

3. Bring it to my house and i'll try and help you fix it for free since im nice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Went to badstangs house

Tried some new RCA's and bypassed his in dash EQ.

The noise didnt exactly go away. It was very faint.

We're going to try all the RCA's ( only had 1 set) and swap in one of my spare h/u's to see if his is messed up

From what i can tell the eq is adding noise or amplifing it.

He regrounded the h/u and eq to a different spot.
