Another clipping question!

I've got an Eclipse XA5000 running one "8 sub (Critical Mass SS82) at the moment. So the sub is receiving 450watts and the clipping light will flash only when the bass really hard and stuff. Even when the light flashes I can't hear any distortion or anything, but again the clipping light is only on for a brief period. I just got a DMM and plan to tune the gain that way, but I've always set it by ear and never had any problems so I was just curious if this brief clipping would harm my equipment. Thanks

The reason clipping is harmful is because it heats up the speakers faster than the normal reproduction of sound. So I think it popping on for a breif second should be fine. But if you want to be safe turn the gain down
