amp tuning questions.

I have a PPI bk1800.1D coming for my JL w7 13.5. I have the sub wired at 3ohm.

The amp should get about 900rms at 3 ohms. But I was going to tune to 750w just to be safe for now. So 47.43 VAC on the DMM. Does this sound good?

Next How should I set my gain? I have Diamond D6 components and a Diamond 4 channel amp. That is tuned to where I can turn my HU up to just barely under max volume before it starts to distort. So should I do the same for the sub amp?

Also I have a Alpine IDA-x001 HU, I know everything should be flat but what should the sub level be at? It goes up to 15, I think. Should I set that at max or like around 10 when I'm setting gain? I wasn't planning on using a bass knob. Just he HU.

Last, The other setting. I was planning on doing this.

LPF-80hz

subsonic-20hz

phase-0

bass boost-0

Does that all sound right?

yup thats right

I goes from 0 to 15. I have heard both. Set it at max when tuning so you can still turn it down, But not up so you can avoid clipping. Ive also heard to not use it and just leave at 0.

Does everything else seem fine to you jrdnhsnbrg

Yes. Turn it all the way up to 15 so you know no matter what you set it to afterwards as long as you don't turn the head unit past the volume you tuned it at you won't be clipping, it's like a safety precaution

Also with you saying that it wont be clipping you should always remeber this is not 100% accurate, just a better way to go about it without turning it up until you see smoke. This will not guarantee that the amp wont be clipping. the only way to do that is a oscope

Yes I suppose it's less of "not clipping" and more of "hopefully minimal clipping"

Ok so tuning it at 15 sub level and at the same volume that my mids are tuned at should be good.

Yes, I know it doesn't guarantee no clipping Just a better chance of it not.

I should't have any clipping problems if I tune it for 750w when the amp should do 900w rms though right.

Those PPIs are good amps, you shouldn't have any problems at 750W.
