Actually, I would suggest it was simply Mr Lew employing an attempt at salemanship. The 400MSX will give you just what you need for that IDQ and costs less (read that as less profit for ProfileUSA) than the AP1000M
wait...i just noticed that the msx400 does not have a subsonic filter, my friend said that i should get one if i run the idq in a ported box...which is what im doing. should i still get that amp?

for a ported enclosure, you really need an ssf to keep the sub from bottoming out (basically it's "free-airing" itself and pushing itself past it's mechanical/thermal limits and will fail).
but i think you can get a line driver/eq for that if your amp doesn't have one..
