amp smoking!

just recently I installed my new amp. its a refurbished planet audio 1250 i got from ebay. as i was listening to a rap cd i noticed i wanted a little more bass so i turned up the gain from 10% to about 20% i then rolled down my driveway turned the volume up just a hair from 5 to 8 and then i hear a CLing cling sound... my subs go out and my hu turns off and back on. i then notice my amp started to smoke.....does anyone know what the problem might be and what i should do about it since it is a refurbished amp i just bought...

You should not just adjust the gain like that... It should be set to one place, and set correctly with a DMM or O-Scope.

You probably killed the amp, contact the seller, I believe there is a 30 day warrenty (if its the same seller I got mine from.)

I have actually heard many success stories with the PA amps, at least the tt model. They can be beaten on at close to half an ohm for months before dying. Maybe the refurbs are a lil UNSAT though.

x10, I have the same amp he has, got it as a refurb as well. I have not had a single problem with it; literally NONE at all, I love it....
