Amp shut off today.

I have been having issues with heat and have ruled out ground, wrong load, too high of gains etc.

Today my amp finally heated up so much it shut off in the middle of a song. Is there any reason this **** thing is heating up so much, im getting pissed off about it. Its a cadence 6004 which is 150x4 or 600x2 bridged. I have it running at 100x2, and 400x1 all at 4 ohms. This isnt even near the maximum that amp rates, and its getting hot enough to burn my finger and now shutting off.

When it did shut off i had it pretty loud, but heres the interesting thing, it was only turned up to 16, my gains were set at 20. On my alpine hu, 16-20 volume is a huge difference.

hmmm.... are you sure you're not driving the amp into hard clipping?

I dont have a scope to check, but im assuming when i used a dmm to set my gains that it would be able to ouput below its stated.

hmmmm... idk why else it would get hot and shut off other than the amp just being driven to hard. as long as the connections are good and all.

Sorry to bring this thread up from the dead. Did you buy the amp directly from Cadence or from a guy on eBay? The guy on eBay was selling amps that are known to overheat due to a smaller heatsink than the regular models.

hmm..that's the one i think and that sucks mang..check the fuses though,still might work
