Amp overheating

I've got a 500/1v2 amp and a HO110R-W7. Music was playing somewhat loudly for 30mins+ on a warm afternoon and I had the bass knob up all the way. The sub just cut out (thermal light didn't come on) and after about 10-15mins it started thumping again. Is the sub too much for the amp to handle? Is an upgrade necessary? Questions, comments, concerns? Thanks.

The sub is not too much for the amp to handle - that statement does not reflect the relationship between the two correctly.

What is going on is you are too much for the amp to handle. You are pushing it too hard by having the bass knob all the way up all the time. This situation means you need an amp that can put out more power (and a sub that will handle it) so that it will be loud enough for you to not have to have the bass knob jacked all the time.

So either leave the bass knob alone or get higher power equipment.
