Amp insides question

Ok i got this amp a Pioneer Premier GM-X434 and it powers up but no sound comes out.

So i decided to open her up and i found this (this is actual question...what is it?) lose on the board. see pic

the spot on the board where i came from says Q960

numbers on it are as follows

E 948

Ok what is it and what does it do?

I would like this amp to work as I could sue it or maybe trade it away for something i want/need.

 
It's a transistor. It makes the amp work in layman's terms. You should be able to solder it back in place, of course you'd have to make sure that it is correctly oriented.

Theres one exactly like directly next to where this was, so should just re solder in the samepostion as the other?

Would said transitor cause the amp to not produce sound but still power up?
