Amp Gain/Settings Safe for Amp?

In order to have a good level from my sealed subs for the rock I listen to, I have to crank the gain up to about 0.4V (cranked almost to the maximum 0.3V) if I don't have the low boost turned up any. Is this safe for the amp? I don't notice any distortion or anything.

Would it be better to turn the gain down a tiny bit to 0.6V or so and turn the low boost up to 2 or 2.5dB?

I'm hoping to keep my subs healthy and happy in my trunk for as long as possible!

Thanks!

don't screw around with the boost knob. turning your gain down and boosting the signal means youre just asking for clipping. if you have a DMM you can set your gains without any worry. however, it sounds like you may need a more powerful amp. what subs are you running, and your current amp?

Ok, I won't use boost.

I don't really have the possibility of a new amp, unfortunately. :/ I'm running 2 12" 1300w Max sony xplods, and a 600w sony xplod amp with a scosche LOC (gain maxed out.) Assuming I absolutely must stick with the amp I have and I don't push my subs too hard (90% rock), is it at all tolerable to keep the gain at 0.4v with no boost?

all sony xplodes? blehhhhhh.

that amp is not gonna be putting out very clean power at all. your best bet would be to sell that on craigslist for like $300, get a nice SQ 12", and get a proper amp that will give it clean power.
