Amp for speakers : How much better is it?

Also keep in mind that you can run 300watts rms to speakers that can only handle 80. You just don't need to turn the gain up far before you get distortion. So it is not a bad thing to get an amp with more power. And if you ever upgrade speakers then you have an amp for em already. But then again, the more power the more money.
If you don't turn the gain up to draw the full 300w from the amp, then you're not giving the speakers 300w now are you?

Running a pair of speakers rated for 50w on amp amplifier rated for 50w does not immediately mean there will be audible distortion by any means.

Actually setting the amp to produce 300w on transients will not neccessarily blow speakers rated for 80w with correctly set gains. Because of the crest factor of most music, the actual average power that the speakers see is going to be less than 80w by a good amount.

True, but the way I read it he said you can run 300w to the speakers, just don't turn up the gain.

It may be that they act like this because they are underpowered and the push to play them louder is causing the amp to clip the signal, which will...
