Amp draw?

What kind of amperage would I be looking at drawing with a VR2000 amp, 4ohm load pulling out about 1200wrms?

Trying to see if I'll have to upgrade my alt sooner or later

Average draw (which is all you care about when looking at upgrading the alt) won't be that much with music. Probably only looking at less than 30A average with the peaks being somewhere around 100A. The battery will be what will have to handle the peaks, no alt will react fast enough to keep up.

I'm trying to learn here, so please forgive me, but how can you expect to draw 1200wrms at 4 ohms when that amp is just rated at 500wrms at 4 ohms, that's what I would like to learn. Or is that an older model than the VRA2000D with different specs.?

Crossfire VR2000D

Class "D" subwoofer amplifier

1 x 1000W @ 4 ohms (12.5V - 0.08% THD)

1 x 2000W @ 2 ohms (12.5V - 0.4% THD)

Fuse: External 240A

So maybe not quite 1200W ...

Still won't draw much average amperage regardless of the rating.

So what your saying is I should be ok with Big3 done in 2AWG, 2AWG to the amp, and a stock 70A alternator?

theoretically, yes. Assuming you don't blast it ALL that often, and your battery is in good condition.

Well finished my install... many hours ahead of time!!!

Battery (+) to fuse block was 6-8AWG, Battery (-) to chassis was 8awg, and Chassis to block was lucky if it was 10awg...

Threw the amp in re-wired my subs to 3.6ohm final load, and cranked it right up!!

Not even a SLIGHT dim in the headlight (Gotta get that 2nd one fixed lol) or any of the dash lights!! I luvs it

Not noticing the bass as much as I used to... but I'll figure it out, might re-wire to 1ohm and see if the Crossfire will take it like my RF used to!

You really need to run bigger wire.

I hope your not thinking those wire sizes I said were what I used... those were what I replaced with 2AWG (Which it turns out, is rated for 110amps of current)
