amp dosent turn off

factory deck or aftermarket?

aftermarket decks have a blue remote wire that turns the amp on when the deck comes on

if the amp is not turning off you may have a constant power wire connected to the amp turn on cirsuit...

what amp deck ect?

Its a blue wire on the back of the radio. Usually it will be blue or blue/white and sometimes has a tag on it labeled remote.

Or, you could head over to walmart or autozone or something and buy a test light for 5 bucks or so.

Ground the test light....touch the end of it to one of the wires and see if the light goes on.

If the light is on...turn the radio off. Does the light go off? If so, that is a remote wire...if it stays on...then move to another wire to test.

What you want is the wire that turns the test light on when the radio is on...and turns off when the radio is off.

You need 4 wires going to your amp.

Power = this usually comes from your battery. It is always on

Ground = this is usually attached to your car chassis. make sure you have a good ground....sand any paint on the metal and make good contact.

Remote = this is usually the blue wire behind your radio. You need to connect it behind the radio and run it to the amplifier. It is usually a thinner wire..usually 18 gauge give or take. It will be smaller then your power/ground wire.

Rca = this comes from the back of your radio to the amp. many times you can run your rca/remote wire together....some do not recommend it. Up to you.

The crossover is what stops certain frequencies going to your speakers. Usually subwoofers like anything below 80hz (give or take)

So you can adjust your crossover to "lowpass" and turn the dial to 80hz as an example. This will help the speaker only play things under 80hz so to speak.

thanks alot! Big help. have been disconnecting the BATT fuse every time lol.

Anytime.

You should disconnect the battery anytime you work on the amp though.

Disconnect battery...make necessary changes to the amp/radio...verify everything is proper...hook battery back up...pray for no sparks.

I would disconnect it anytime you work on power wires. If it is your rca's that your working on...nah. But anything power I always stay safe.

and the X-Over how does it effect the sound should it be lower or higher? lol sorry guys just wanna learn.
That all depends on what speakers you are hooking up.

If they are subwoofers, I would put the X-Over on "lowpass" and if you can adjust it..trying somewhere around 80.

Then play the speakers....and adjust it in small increments lower or higher to your liking.

Usually subwoofers will be somewhere around 80hz as a general setting.

Depending on your setup and liking...it may be higher or lower, but 80 would be a good place to start.
