Amp Classes

Just wondering if someone could explain the amp classes because I had someone looking at my 81000d and they said man your system is loud, that is a D amp right? I said yeah. He said thats why its so loud. I know that is not the reason, and I think it has something to do with power it uses and stuff like that. Any Help??

Thanks

The fact that it's Class D is not why it pumps out so much power. Class D allows more power with less current draw. Because of the increased efficiency, less heat is created, thus a smaller heatsink will suffice (Unlike a typical 1500 RMS Class A/B amplifier which is friggin' huge compared to the 81000D) ...
So, Class D = greater efficiency, smaller footprint

Of course, this is a generalization and there are exceptions ... Some class Ds aren't very efficient at all (i.e. JL Audio's Slash series)

Thats what I was thinking I was just trying to get my facts straight before I told someone something wrong.

Thanks
