Amp advice for a noob (07 Subaru Impreza WRX sedan)

Noob to car audio.

If I intend to have component speakers up front (Focal VR or KR), then will run rears (stock speakers) off the HU (or will just disconnect), then a sub in the back (dunno what size). Just looking for better sound quality than the stock set-up.

What amp do I need? 4 channel amp or 5 channel amp? Recommended brands/models, given I just want a simple good sounding set-up?

I listen mostly to rock, and lounge/house music. Some bass would be good, but hearing the diff instruments and vocals is more essential to me. Car is an 07 Impreza which I intend to sound deaden (doors & trunk) with second skin.

I've been told the Alpine PDX5 is compact and good enough for my needs? Anybody with an opinion on that?

I already changed the stock HU last year to a Pioneer DVD unit. Looking to spend below $1000 for everything else, including sound deadening (just front doors & maybe trunk) & installation.

Again, if you are buying the stuff from a shop, most 5ch or high-powered 4ch amps are going to be around $500 by themselves. Components would be about $250 (don't get Focal; better stuff out there for less money), wiring at least $100, sub at least $150-250. That leaves no room for install and deadening. Search the Subaru and Impreza forums for audio installs and do it yourself!!
