AM Radio interference

When I originally had my latest deck installed I was really pleased with my AM radio reception. However since that time, my AM radio reception has developed loud interference which renders all but the local AM stations unlistenable. When I shut off my car engine however, the interference is gone.

Anyone have any ideas of what might be causing this and if there's a way to return my radio to its previous reception capabilities?

Thanks for your help. (I need my talk radio in spurts between music listening sessions!)

Rather than blame the radio, you might do a tune-up on your car. Ignition noise is often associated with bad spark plug or plug wires. As for the radio itself, the most vulnerable area is the antenna. Make sure the antenna wire doesn't run near the car's ECM and stuff like that.

I just further noticed today that my AM reception is fine when my keys are in the ACC position, however when I turn the keys to the ON position I get the interference (even without the engine running).

Anyone have any ideas what's causing this?

Thanks.

Sounds like the car's computer is generating noise that's being picked up by the radio. It wouldn't be running in the ACC position. Again, check the antenna wire and move it away from your ECM. Or find a forum for your vehicle and ask about shielding the ECM (all cars are different).
