Alternative to kickpanels?

I've been wanting to contruct some kickpanels for my car but it would be too much of an obstruction when using my clutch. I was thinking about building an extention off of my door panel in order to bring the mid-bass out of the door panel and aim my tweeter where I need it. Would this be significant to a kickpanel, or is mid-bass directional and need to be aimed too?

Midbass isn't sensitive to aiming, but they are sensitive to pathlengths.

Midrange (in a 2-way setup, your mids will play midrange aswell) are sensitive to both aiming and pathlengths.

With doorpods you are helping yourself some by being able to aim the mids...but aren't helping yourself much in the way of pathlengths which is where kickpanels have their advantage.

Time alignment can help you some here, if you have it....

Doh..didn't know those even had a name. So aiming is better than not aiming? And what's time alignment?

yeah, doorpods will help with aiming, but one speaker will still be much closer to your ear than the other.

Hmm. I'll try redoing my kickpanels again since that's the best option. I just wanted to jump on doorpods since they would be less of an obstruction.
