I'm gonna be adding another Kinetik HC 2000 under the hood this weekend. That will make 2 Kinetik HC 2000's under the hood with a stock alty that maxes out at 145 Amps. As you can see by my sig, I don't have a HUGE system (1,000W RMS Max.) and don't normally run it at full tilt but wanted to prep for possible future upgrades. My question is this: Will adding the additional battery impact the lifespan of the alternator? I'm thinking "no" but wanted to get some other opinions. Whaddya think???

I ran 3 or 4 Kinetiks on a stock 150 amp alternator for around 3 years.

Errr. Reread what i said, it was a pair of Kinetik 2000s and 2, sometimes 3 of the old purple haze exide/orbital batterys.

OK, consensus seems to be it will be fine.

Going forward, at what maximum wattage number should I consider an HO alternator based on my present 145 Amp alternator?

based on the 2 hc2000's and 145 amp alt... i would "think" you'd be fine up to 3kw as long as your not blasting full tilt all the time or with the vehicle off

this place by me sells orbital/exides for 119 for 1000 ca an like 850cca is this good?

Bump...so far, one vote for 3,000 Watts RMS max before upgrading to HO alternator...anyone else wanna chime in?

That's like asking if it hurts putting too much gas in your car.

There was a guy local to me running about 8k+ on a stock alternator with lots of stinger batts. Had it that way for many years with no problems. Only thing he liked to do was throw it on a charger from time to time.
