Got Bass?
Hey all, I'm a newb. Thats all...

I'm jk, ive been reasearching the past couple months, and was going to put a new setup in my new car that i was going to get. Well it turns out that new car isn't coming for a while, so i decided i would go ahead and put it in this one, however im still lost because I'm just too much of a newb. Right now i have a the dual bandpass setup with 300w going to it and it sounds ok, but im looking for nice clean bass, that can get loud, but still sounds good fairly low. Heres what I'm looking at:

1) 2 12" Alpine Type R's

2) Hifonics 1206D amp (i think)

3) Custom Box ported and with all the right stuff. Having a friend help me.

A few questions:

1) 1206D amp from Hifonics enough? Its pushing 1200w at 1ohm, which would be 600w to each correct? Which is 100w over the rms of the subs? Should i look at the 1606D instead? (dont want to go more power than that, can't afford to buy new type-r's)

2) Should i look into a different amp or company, around the same price range?

3) I already have basic wiring from Best Buy which is probably shiz, should i upgrade all the wiring if i go with this setup? I'll install myself this time, I've been learning. Oh and if so, where should i get my wiring and what wiring will i need in addition to what I have (i think they used 8 guage)? Also what sites should i use other than ebay to get wiring? i had two great sites but i lost them and can't find the thread i found them at...

4) Kinda off topic with the Sub section, but I'm running the Stock Headunit on my 2005 Subaru, it's the upgraded stock sound system, so it has a 6 disk changer in the Unit. Will it be worth upgrading after the subs and amp? How important is it? The highs and mids are very impressive for stock on my car, and unless i blow a speaker im not looking to replace components yet.

Thanks for your help, sorry If I'm too much a newb and missed a thread somewhere that would somewhat answer my question, but ive searched a good amount and that setup seems to fit not only my budget but what i want out of good sound quality. Feel free to flame or anything about my duals as well, but it did get me addicted to the world of car audio //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

which type r's are we talking about? it makes a world of difference. and also, that amp might only be doing prolly ~900-1000, id upgrade in that area if budget allows. A box can be made for 30 bucks and the experience is well worth it.

4ohm type r's (thats what you meant right?) that will allow me to run 1ohm from the amp? I'm sorry i sorta understand this all, im like on the verge of understanding it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

ok should i wire it at 2ohms when i get it? ive been reading more and i think i confused myself...which isn't easy i guess when it comes to this //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

can i steal your mtn dew banner?

i'd go for more power. i just got this amp, might work well for you:

http://www.millionbuy.com/sospic11700d.html

make sure you get the 2005 (newest) version of the type r's. 1242, i think.

you'll want to make sure you have at least 4gauge wiring, but 1/0 is better.

make sure you get a good set of box plans (check the sticky in the enclosures forum). try 4-5 ft^3 tuned to 30-35Hz.

Haha yeah you can steal my banner, i had a star wars one too, but it got lost somewhere //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif And my box will be made somewhere in that range, because thats what the consensus(sp?) seems to be...and the amp looks awesome, i might just get that one. Great price too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/greedy.gif.5a53e6246569d7ab79867170f3b06629.gif

And i figured out i should go with the 2 ohm type-r's so i can go to 1 ohm?

ah ha ---> found what i was looking for thanks to xluben's clarification and my extended research

Btw i can't find a shipping calculator on the millionbuy site, how much was it to ship that amp?

you have to go through the first step or order processing to see shipping (type in name, address).

i think it's about $30 for ground. don't do 'free ground' it's too heavy and they'll actually charge more.

Alright im thinking about going with this box:

my.php

I have a fairly small trunk and its gonna be hard to squeeze this in I have a feeling. I have 16" max for height, 26" max for width with about 45" length. Thats max, i mean the 16" height is like right against a seat belt thing that hangs down about 2 inches and i can't find a way to remove it. This is for 2 12"s correct? Any other suggestions, i think this might work though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

if it fit's it'll work.
i don't see a box that big fitting in a neon, though
I still have my scooby right now, its got a nice wide a$$ but the trunk's fairly short width wise for sub //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
