Alpine's distortion level?

But really Id guess around 27. Ive always used alpines and generally try to keep it out of the 30 range because I have had clipping issues in the past at 31 and above.

Much better answer.

I keep it around 27 also, just wondering if anyone has ever tested it.

I have tested 3 different alpine head units with my oscope and none of them will reach clipping.

The latest one I'm using is the 9887 and there is no clipping, however at 35/35 the voltage is around 4.27, so even though there were no flat tops, I assume at this level it's probably really close to clipping.

If you can't get close to or to 35 without distortion then your amp gains are not set properly. I have never had any distortion problems with Alpine decks, ever.

read the thread again.

This has nothing to do with amp gains. We are only discussing the head unit itself not amps. The head unit is subject to clipping also, which is why it good to find that level and then set you amp gains accordingly.
