I am a noob and I was wondering if there would be a big change in quality if I switched from a two year old sony cd player to a Alpine 9847? Would the sub adjustments on the alpine make a difference?

GET THE ALPINE, I have the same one the 9847. Has a bass control and a seperate subwoofer level control. Plus the normal fade, balance, treble. It's a nice unit.

My sony is a pretty good unit.

It's like the model 810 from like two years ago. Except it doesn't change colors on the lcd or anything.

You probably will notice an improvment in sound. And have more control of EQ settings at the least.
