Alpine pxaH700 and pxaH701. Differences?

What are the differences between the 2? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
They are the same.

The H700 was the "package deal", where it came with the control unit and such.

A couple years ago, Alpine decided to change it to where you could purchase the control unit and processor seperately, and they then changed the model to H701.

The only difference is that the control unit has green lights that came with the H700, and the RUX-C701 control unit has blue lights.

The is no difference in functionality or features. And, unforunately, they didn't fix any of the minor bugs either.

Can the brain operate by itself say on a 9855 HU or does the brain require the controller screen as well?
The only non-video screen unit that can control the H700/H701 is the DVA-9860 (and the new 9861 I believe). The other units are video monitor units such as the W200 and such.

So, with any headunit "lower" than the 9860/9861, the control unit is necessary to access the features of the H700/H701.

And even then, the 9860 is a relative PITA to control the processor with. It will do it....it's just a little more "work" to access the functions compared to the control unit.

So in short...for the 9855 you would also need the control unit.

Minor bugs?

Are there any differences in lets say firmware dates and such?

Would you think its worth it to buy one?

Sorry, its just that someone is trying to sell me one for a decent price.

The unit suffers from "zipper noise"....if you turn the volume up or down very quickly, you get minor crackling sounds. Nothing damaging, just a small annoyance.

Some people suffer from an audible noise floor when using analog inputs and/or the Ai-net connection. Not all, but some. This can be fixed some using certain methods.

Some people have had the unit lose the settings after disconnecting power. This shouldn't happen...but it periodically does. So write down all of your settings.

Nope.

I have the DVA-9860 connected to the H701 in my vehicle right now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Out of the "bugs" I mentioned above, the only one I've personally experienced is the zipper noise.

I'm running optical now, so the noise floor isn't even a possible issue for me right now. But even when I was only using the Ai-net connection and the analog inputs, I did not have the noise floor issue.

And I've yet to have the unit lose it's settings after disconnecting power.

If the price is good, I think you would be unwise to pass it up.

One of the best processors on the market, feature wise. Nothings perfect, and like most other products it has it's small problems (mentioned above). But overall, it's an excellent, excellent piece of equipment.

On Alpines site it says the 701 can be controlled by the 9865 9860, and IVA-D310 but I know people use the 200.

I am thinking about purchasing the IVA-D100 and using it to control the 701, is that possible.
