Alpine PDX-5

The PDX-5 was the worst possible amplifier that I tried in my Mustang during 2008. It barely moved my 13w6v2 and it sure as heck didn't seem like it gave me 300 watts RMS. It was easily outperformed by an Orion HCCA 225 G5 at 2 ohms and the Orion was rated to produce 200 watts RMS @ 2 ohms!

Granted, I didn't have any test equipment in 2008, so my less than stellar results can be construed as subjective. The Orion allowed me to hear and feel the sub in my cabin whereas the Alpine was like I didn't have a sub at all. Phase swapping only made the output from the PDX-5 worse.

if you already have the w6, i would suggest running a seperate amplifier for the sub, or upgrading to a more powerful 5 channel amp. unless you don't have the sub yet, the w3's perform pretty well. never had just 1 but i had 2 12" in a ported enclosure wired at 2 ohms with a alpine mrd-1000 v-power amp and the quality was great.
