alpine pdx 1000.1 multimeter shows 160 volts!

So I reset my gains today after installing my new deck this weekend using a multimeter. The alpine pDX 1000 with the switch to the highest RCA pre out voltage was putting out 160 volts! is this even possible? I switched it to the lowest input voltage and then turned it to 48 volts but now my subs sound weak : ( Nothing like the monsterous sound I had in there before (obviously) Noise reduction was humongous as I am sure you could imagine.
