so i put my 4 yer old alpine MRP-F250 into my wife's mercedes to power factory speakers.

and decided on a kenwood KAC-x4r (used from my friend who owns the shop)

i installed and tuned it in his car and it sounded great with some expensive boston accoustic speakers.

i have

kenwood kdc-x592

alpine type-s 6.5 component set (the old ones with phase plug)that are rated at 50w rms and can handle massive amounts of bass

i tuned the gains on both amps to stop at 20 volume(3/4 of the volume on the deck) didnt change any settings on the radio

the kenwood amp at same volume has less bass and when i try to turn it up it starts to crackle a lil and distorts the hell out of the speakers.

so alpine amp is rated at 40w rms at 4ohm

kenwood amp is rated at 75w rms at 4ohm

speakers are rated at 50w rms 4 ohm

no crossover enabled on either amp( it was aways ran on passthru for front high pass)

the kenwod amp should have no problem producing at least same if not better sound but it doesnt..

can anyone explain that am i missign something

also i know some people would suggest to set the high pass filter above 80hz but thats exactly what i dont want to do

i want bass from speakers and i had it with less powerfull amp why is that?

well its not new it came out last year or something.

i mean it sounds ok when you put a high pass but the bass is just not as smooth as it was with alpine

but i dont want to give up on that amp

i mean it cant be that bad kenwood excelon is not a dual or jensen

it was kinda unpleasant surprise for me looking at those specs.

u kno the f250 is like a baby of alpine family but it kicked ***.

so kenwood is a digital amp and i cannot find anywhere what exactly is it. is it a class D classT or other digital amp

alpine was AB which is why im thinkin it put out much smoother bass at high volumes

i had a cowon D2 that i belive was a hybrid amp it switched to digital at certain volume adn distorted the sht out of sound( but it rated very high in highest power output)

so the final rundown

i took out my amp 3 days before i put this one in so im sure didnt forget how it sounded before

at volume 20 i had amazingly smooth and distortion free bass

the speakers werent flopping or clipping they were moving pretty even

with kenwood it goes from moving in and out to just totally uncontrolled cone movement with one click of a volume.

very annoying

so i dont know if it has somethign to do with the fact that it is a digital amp.

and for people that say oh man theres no difference between full range AB and D you are full of(earwax) and cant hear jack.

even for a subwoofer i can hear a difference in speaker handling at higher volumes

im also running a 325w alpine AB for my W3 sub that traded for a 400w digital sub amp.

With the exception of JL Audio's new HD line, no other full range class d amplifier for the 12v market has managed to impress me thus far. I can never put my finger on it, but they just don't sound quite right.

Sadly, full range class d has been available for the pro audio world for over 10 years now yet car audio is just beginning to catch up to the standard. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
