that's a good video, but not the one i was expecting... i'm looking more to see this hu in hi-resolution pics and, perhaps, a few vids showing it's functionality, but that's doesn't satisfy my needs accordingly ehhe

its a slick piece, grabs the customers attention like no other radio on the board...

once they hear it has no cd player however, i get a funny look or an "aww".....

If it had some actual processing.. Better x-over and time alignment and decent EQ.. I'd be all over it.. A CD player is a moving part item just waiting to break. If they made an SQ version of this thing, preamp only, copper chassis, DTA, etc, or at least a digital out to go to the H701, that might be something.

Seems like Alpine was just testing the waters with this model.. Kinda like Clarion's FB275BT.. No player, just SD input and bluetooth..

Very cool BUT... How about a full-blown SQ version of these non-CD units?

The manufacturers are just tipping their toes to feel the temperature in the market I think.. They need to jump right on in with a couple high-end models.. one guy's opinion.

^ I agree. I think that they feel that people who use compressed formats don't care about or understand sound quality, thus they don't bother.

What they fail to realize is that many people (like me) use lossless formats like AAC lossless or FLAC.

I would love to get the X001. But for $400, it is lacking in features. Yeah it does Ipod great, and I can live without the CD player. But no higher end processing and no digital connection to the H701 kill it for me.

to tell you the truth, I'm starting to lean towards an OEM unit like the new MS-8 or H650 or something.. maybe a 3sixty.2 if I can find one for a silly price.. I've had too many aftermarket head units go TU on me.. including excelon preamp-only units and alpines.. I'm leary about the long term reliability of all of them anymore.. They're made for the masses, anymore.

I had the X001 in my truck for several weeks and I liked it. The fact that it didnt have a cd player made me take it out. If your doing any SQ or SPL comps, you cant put there CD in, so basically you cant enter. Liked the ability to turn off the internal amp and make it a "dead head".
