Alpine HU hissing

I've got a very noticable hiss coming from my speakers, and I dont have a clue where its coming from. It does it when I play a CD, ipod, or listen to the tuner. And it increases slightly when I increase the volume. When the volumes off, its gone. Could it be the amp? HU not grounded well? Processor throwing in intereference? I do have a slight bit of engine wine I need to take care of, so maybe I can kill both at the same time.

Maybe you should call........

........or try setting your gains properly.

My gains are set properly with a DMM and everything is hooked up right. I think Im going to try moving the ground for the HU, and bypassing the processor. Hopefully that'll improve it some, if not take it out completely.

ok, i did some testing today, and ive come to a conclusion. I regrounded the HU, no luck. I threw in my old 9825, no luck. I unplugged the rca's from teh amp and it still made the noise, which meant everything before the rca-to-amp connection was good. I checked the amp ground and it was secure. So I guess have a noisey amp.

its not my HU, regrounding it want to anything I dont think. The noise is there whether the amp is getting a signal or not (makes noise even if the rca's are unplugged form the amp). The only way it could be the HU is if its sending the remote wire a bad signal, which I highly doubt. Thats the only thing connected directly to the amp when teh rca's are unplugged.

Could it be because my gains are set so high, but correct with a dmm? I'll try turning the gains off and see if it goes away.

ITS MY BEER

MMM MMM BEYATCH

I now know for sure its the amp. I tried new rca's for the hell of it, noise still there. Regrounded the HU to the battery, noise still there. Put on a ground-loop isolater for the hell of it, noise still there. Switched HU's, noise still there. The only other thing I could see it being is the crossovers, but two crossovers doing the exact same thing is highly unlikely. The amp is just a noisey amp.

I'm going to call ED in the morning and see if they can do anything about this. My nine.1 is making a whining noise (like the fan is slipping off the fan motor and the motor is just turning freely), and now my nine.4 is hissing like a mofo. Kinda ***** ass.

ED = THE ****

Well, been doing some research on the ED forums and here and apparently, this is a pretty common problem. A few people with nine.4's had this problem, sent them off and received new ones and still had the problem, and ended up using another amp to eliminate the hiss. I'm guessing it's time for some arc amps, or zapco.
