Alpine head unit faceplate won't display... is blank

Hi... Alpine CDA 9884 with fold-down faceplate to access CD

Bought this from Crutchfield over a year ago. The display started flickering about three months ago and now it's virtually impossible to make it work. I have to press the upper-right corner of the faceplate and hold it down to get any display activity at all. The gold contacts seem to be connecting but obviously not well. I'm pretty good with electronics and fixing things. Any idea what I might do to get this working?
