Alpine GPS Question..

I'm thinking about picking up an Alpine touchscreen this summer, and GPS wouldn't be a bad touch because this state is FULL of unmarked roads and shit.

One question. Alpine's GPS unit is like 1700 bucks, do generic GPS units exist that will work with an Alpine HU? I don't want to spend near that much money for a **** GPS when I've got a handheld one that was like 90 bucks.

You might be able to use the Aux. but don`t quote me on that.When i bought my Alpine, i just said screw it and got the navi with it.got a decent deal on both of em.

How much can you find the Nav's around for? I think a grand's a bit more than I'm willing to spend, but if need be...Any suggestions anyway?

I bet there's a way to hack the Alpine brain to receive generic NMEA reports...would be cool to reverse engineer an Alpine unit to see how the data input is done.
