I want to install an Alpine CDE-9872 into my 1988 Volvo 760 Turbo Wagon. The present head unit is a SONY with 7.7 ohm dash speakers and 4.5 ohm 2-way speakers in the front doors. No speakers in the rear doors at this time. I plan to run 7.7 ohm 2-way dash speakers, 4.5 ohm 2-way front door speakers and 4.4 ohm midrange rear door speakers. What would be the best speaker configuration if not using and aftermarket amplifier. It has been suggested that I wire the 8 ohm dash speakers parallel with the 4.5 ohm front door speakers to the head units front speaker output wiring. But this would result in 3.3 ohm impedance. Would it work better to connect only the dash speakers to the head units front speaker output wires and then wire the 4.4 ohm and 4.5 ohm door speakers in series to the head units rear speaker output wires? Would the 2-way door speakers work better in the front doors or the rear doors. I think the original Volvo configuration used midrange speakers in both the front and rear doors.
