Alpine CDA-9886 vs CDA-9887

I was deliberating between the 9886 and 9887 for a while now and have been searching on ebay and such and have found that i can get a new 9886 for around $225 shipped and a 9887 for around $300 shipped and i was wondering if anyone had hands on experience with either of these and was wondering if i should just go with the 9886 bc the 9887 would be useless to me? i do not plan on buying the imprint unit so that isnt an issue and i was told somewhere that the eq on the 9887 is dependent on the imprint unit and the 9886 would be better suited for a personal equalization of the sound. I am really concerned with ipod control and they both have the percentage search function which i really am excited to use. Any personal preferences are greatly appreciated and links to reviews and/or videos would be really nice.

Thanks

My friend has the 9886 hooked up to his Nano and it works beautifully. If you're not going to get Imprint then I would recommend the 86. You can find reviews by googling. Crutchfield perhaps? Good luck.

im in the same boat and am really leaning toward the 9886. its cheaper, same features basically and its cheaper lol. i pretty much have it narrowed down to the 9886 and the x100 like stated above. i never use cd's anymore hardly so the x100 is very attractive but it only has 2v preouts and some other things im not sure about.

Not really. The 9886 requires the imprint unit to use any processing other than the built in EQ, the 9887 doesn't. You can run an active front stage on the 9887 w/o the imprint, you can't on the 9886.

Also, the 9887 does have an EQ that doesn't require the use of the imprint, either a 7band graphic or 5 band parametric.

Out of the box customizing on the 9887 is superior to the 9886. If you are going to go active the 9887 is your choice as it provides out of the box 3 way active crossover controls. Also you have the built in EQ with presets. IE. you can set up your EQ and save it to 1-6 button on the bottom. This is nice for quickly switching between different Eq settings to see what you like better. This is also accessible from the remote which is nice.

However if you are not into tweaking as much then the 9886 would be just fine for you as well. I for one love my 9887 =D

EDIT:

Forgot about the scree... the 9887 screen is a lot nicer and is super easy to read even in bright sunlight. The screen alone would be a big selling point for me.

I don't know if you are thinking abut this but if you are going to use the bluetooth module from Alpine then do NOT go with the 9887/9886 because the BT goes through the iPod fullspeed cable and there is a very audible high pitched whine when listening to the iPod. This has been confirmed on many setups.

I was going to go with the 9886 and BT module but because of this issue I had to go with the IDA-x100 (don't get me wrong, I love this deck) but the pre outs are a lower voltage.

if u get the ida-x001 the preouts are 4 volts instead of 2 just fyi. thats the one i am getting, its the exact same as the x100 except the preout volts.

Umm...not the exact same...read the official IDA thread. It is annoying on the x001 that there is a separate Enter/Search button...and no back button. Sound slike a small deal but it is SO much nicer the way Alpine has it on the x100

I have the 9887 and love it. You have to remember that if you like CD's as well, don't even consider the IDAX cuz it cant play CD's unless you buy an extra attachment. 9886 is a sweet HU as well tho don't get me wrong. I think it will be a win win either way
