Besides a nicer interface and 4v Preamp, why would someone buy the 9886 over a 9884?

For the 4v and the better display. Dosen't the 86 also include a remote?

I don't think Alpine is know for their sound shaping, are they?

If you like sond shaping then a Pioneer will be a better choice I think or u can always add a pre amp. If I had the money I would buy Alpines Best.

I have the CDA-9884. Its a good HU and I like it, but I will soon be getting a 9886 for its 4v pre out. I didn't even think to check the 9884 before i bought it and after i installed everything i realized it only had 2v pre outs when even my old CDA-9827 that had gotten stolen had 4v.

I have a 9886 and love it. Sound shaping is fair to decent but only allows adjustment to the HPF from 80hz to 350khz I believe, and the bass adjustment is at 80hz. The interface is kick *** and it just sounds so much nicer then the other models. Listening to it side by side with a 9884, there is a distinct difference in SQ from the 9886. I got mine off ebay for 235.00 shipped..I have no complaints

I got the 9886 for the USB connection, the 4volt preouts, and I liked the display better. I've really enjoyed using thumb drives to load up music. Some folks have also hooked up hard drives, but I haven't went down that route yet as 16GB flash is enough for me right now. The bass/treble adjustments are the same as the 9884 I believe.

I've been completely happy w/it up to this point - the sound quality is great. I've also read about the difference in SQ b/w the 9886 and 9884, but haven't heard the 9884 so I can't speak to it.
