It could if you are playing back oversaturated recordings on the higher BBE level settings.
The RIAA has increased the SPL level on newer CD's steadily over the years sacrificing the overall sound quality. The BBE system works by delaying the high, mid, and low frequencies so they reach your ears in a more uniform way. This is accomplished with VCA's (voltage controlled amplifiers) based on the real time signal levels of the recording you are playing back passing through them.
You will notice some exaggerated brightness on some recordings if they are overdone.
