Alpine Amp and Subwoofer

Hi guys

I am looking at purchasing an Alpine Type R 12inch Subwoofer with 500w RMS.

Now my problem with looking up sound systems is what powered Amp do i need to power the Sub. Logically thinking i would need a 500w Amp such as the Alpine MRP M500 which specs state:

Per channel into 2 ohms (≤1% THD+N)

MRP-M1000 ....................................... 1000 W x 1

MRP-M500 ........................................... 500 W x 1

Would this be the correct powered amp or would i be looking for something more or less.

I do not have a lot of experience with this stuff so any information would be great thank you. Also i dont really want to spend more than i have to.

the mrp500 is an optimal match for a dual4 Type R, but not for a dual 2 type r

which type r are you talking about that would be good for the MRP500, part number wise, the SWR-1222D or the SWR-1242D.

The one that is dual voice coil 4 ohm, it should be the 1242 number. A dual4 can be wired to 2 or 8ohm. The mrp500 delivers 500w at 2ohm, and thus delivers the rms to the sub. A dual 2 wires to either 1ohm or 4ohm, and you would therefore need 500rms at 1 or 4, and not supplied by the MRP500

i did and i have had no replies, my problem is, the standard depth to boxes is too deep for my car, so i was wondering what sort of affect cutting the depth back and extending the width would have to the sound quality?

like i said, not really my area of expertise, but I dont think it has much of an effect at all. as long as you maintain the needed box volume you should be ok
