Alpine 9883 iPod Connection?

I recently purchased the Alpine 9883 with iPod connection and I wanted to know if the device must be an Apple iPod to work for the iPod connection? I'm guessing it must be but since I'm not a car audio guru I wanted to know.

Yes and no, I mean from what my IT buddy tells me Apple computer don't have as much stuff messing up ast PC's. I guess I just have to buy me an iPod.
