well i guess you can say i got in over my head..

i just a got a new alpine 9855, i was impressed by the SQ of it in the shop i purchased it from, and i actually like the glide touch.

i though i'd give my self a challenge and try an equalizer instead of just the standard "bass", "treble" etc ect.

im really confused, and i can't get my setup to sound like how i had it.

my first problem is, is that i can't get the highs out of it, i used to love my ear splitting highs, but i can't come anywhere near them now

second problem, i can't seem to get the sub output i used to get

i just dont get the whole crossover slope thing. any suggestions?

MX is off BTW i have my front highpassed at 125 htz, and my sub setting on the headunit lowpassed at 50. how do i set the curves?

ugghh, i should have just gotten something simpler //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif

i just bought one tonight.

i was also wickedly confused as well.

then i read the manual, and it explains how to set all the crossovers and shee... i absolutely love it now.
i played around with mine for about 2 hours today, and just ended up getting real frustrated, i just cant get it to sound like it did, maybe ill consult the manual as well.

i hate how you have to save the EQ settings as a preset or whatever or else change back to what they were when you exit.

that grinded my gears as well @ first.

You think you are confused, you don't know the half of it, I tried to make my own custom eq setting, went to a comp running an ed 9.1 and 2 re se 12's went to my custom setting burped @144.6 next round I accidentally changed the eq settings to rock, and hit 146.3, I know the rock setting does not have the test tone frequency setup that I really need, but lately I have been just using the rock setup. I am too stupid to figure out that eq stuff.. I really do need to figure it out soon though, because I now have a powerbass xa3000d and an mt 18 on its way to me. so to hit the correct freq, is a must now for me... if anyone can shed some light on thisit would be greatly appreciated. I konda miss my bass + or - you know.

I'd also like to figure some of this stuff out. It would be helpful to know how to setup my Home Theater EQ as well. I'm sure this thread will shed some light

thats my problem with alpine HUs, they don't have real time tuning as you explained above. that would annoy the hell out of me.

as far as the HU and eq, be patient. lol. getting it to sound correct does take time, especially since you just got a new HU. also, i think you might have your components HP way too high. you are losing some of the midbass frequencies. trying HP it at 80hz at whatever crossover slope you like. here's my lame attempt at explaining crossover slopes. look under the crossover slope section, http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=146726&highlight=active+passive.

Its really easy when you break out your manual.. For the people with weak sub output have set your gains on your sub amp when installing the new HU ? .. set your gains with the sub output at +15 ( 0db) you should be more satisfied after doing this.
