Alpine 9855 3-way off HU

My 9855 has a dip switch on the chassis that sets it from dual HP fading to a full 3-way crossover. When I run 3-way, can I still use the deck powered rear output and fade some rear fill for backseat passengers on some cheap 6x9's?

when going with 3-way crossover mode, the xover settings will apply the RCA outputs AND the speaker outputs. Your 6x9s will be bandpassed just like your mids.

I take it the fader is dead too and all ta will apply to both as well.

The manual states that if 3-way is used fade is not available, only balance.

EDIT: I noticed that too and immediately removed rear speakers.

TA will apply to each individual speaker...

right, but the TA applies to FL FR RL RR S1 S2... if you adjust TA for the rear speakers your mids up front and playing at the same time as your rears and then you would have tweets all messed up... Not a good idea IMO.

What I meant was that any ta values I set up for the fronts externally amplified components would also apply to the rear cheapo components that I may try to hook up to the deck amp for kicks. ie it will sound like shit.

Not really if you just want it for rear fill.

Though, you would have to adjust your gains differently. Because the power from the deck will clip, before the pre-outs do...

If you must have rear fill... it'd be okay to bandpass them into the vocal range anyway...

Very true, but you must amp the rear's in order for it to really be worth anything IMO. Actually i wouldnt put any in the back in the first place so its not worth it to me, but it is possible i guess.

Cool, thanks. My intended crossover point for the mains (and deck by default) is somewhere between 2.5k and 3.2k; I'll probably wait for someone selling some mach5's cheap and run some low end dayton neo's with them in the rear deck off the HU power. Just to fool around with it.

Edit: I'll be pissed if it sounds better than my more expensive front stage.
