Hello,

i was going to buy my friend's eclipse 8445 but here in my area there is no warranty for Eclipse, so i'd want to know which one of the two units would be a better choice in my 2way passive setup? alpine 9835(my friend has one brand new) or nak cd400? without any external processing can the nak sound as good or better than the 9835?

thanks

The 9835 is a great sounding unit. Best unit I have owned to date from Alpine, past units include 9813, 9815, 9853, 9835, and now the 9886. Never had experience with the Nakamichi, but the old Alpines are very durable (used the 9813 for about 5 years and it still works!) and sound unreal!

Good Luck!

thank for the inputs,

but don't you think the TA in a passive setup isn't necessary? and the 5 band PEQ doesn't do very good job? and the active X-overs aren't usable in the passive setup?

Nakamichi makes an excellent unit, and they are usually built very well.

Both are great units, but if you never plan on going active or using time alignment, then I guess the 9835 isn't worth it either.

If you plan on just using it as a CD transport, don't want the included tuning capabilities, and don't need mp3 compatibility, then go with the CD400...

If you want those extra features, go with the 9835.

If you don't get the 9835, and still have the friend with the brand new 9835, let me know a price on it.

in the end bought the cd400! and it really sounds fantastic! so smooth! so dynamic! with nooo harshness! even sounds better than the clarion dxz956mc which replaced by the nak!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif the nakamichi sounds different, very meaty , powerful and more neutral while the clarion was a warmer sounding deck.

nqsm; the price of the 9835 was 400$ brand new.

thank so much for the inputs...

now what processor do you suggest for the nak? analog? digital? what brand and model?

Still think you can't do much better than the h701/c701 combo. If you have a double din area you can put both the c701 and the Nak in there and have everything right at your fingertips.

I've only used alpine's processor, so I can't help you there.

You could easily use the h701/c701. Just put the controller in the glove box.

Quite honestly, for the processing power you get, the h701 is one of the best out. But, IMO, if you're not going to be running a 3-way setup up front, it might be overkill.

9835 rules...
I've owned the 7897, 9835, 9855, 9887, iva w200

by far the best I've owned it the 9835...
I'd agree. But, comparing the w200 to the 9835 is pointless. It doesn't have the EQ the others you mentioned do. Now, if you add the 701 to the w200 there's no way the 9835 is better.

FWIW, my favorite single din alpine is the 9815. I got one on the way just for the hell of it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
