Alpine 7897 - Older head unit - Randomly will skip on CD and MP3 CD

I have an Alpine 7897 head unit that I have owned for 8+ years.

I love this head unit.

The only issue I have with it, is random skipping of CD and MP3 Cd's.

I say random because sometimes I will turn it on, and it will play a CD/MP3CD fine no issue. Then I get out, come back 1 hour later, same cd, and it will start getting choppy (or the TIME on the MP3 will start going nuts - 1 moment its showing the track at 30mins, then it glitches and shows 45mins etc).

Is there some cleaning CD authorized from Alpine for this issue - or is there something else wrong?

PS - I have an Alpine 12Disc CD changer installed as well - and there are NO issues with playback from the changer.
