Almost blew my BTL

the smell is the covering on the coil that holds the aluminum to the former. some stink from a sub is ok. in moderation of course.
you did the right thing turning it off when you did. it doesnt take long for a coil to get warm if you are playing a sub under tuning for more than a short time.
coil dosent heat up more plaing it under tuning, it should actually get cooler due to the extra movement

tuning and boxes have more to do with mechanical power handling than thermal, though it still comes into effect

BTL FULLY LOADED SUX

Just joking.... Sheesh dont get your panty's in a wad!

I wouldnt want a sub\setup that I couldnt play any tone too and have to worry like that. If you pay that kind of money you should be able to shoot it and have no problems.
you could pay 10k$ for a setup, if the stuff isnt set right or an idiot gets on the volume, anything can happen

Ok so last night I was watching sub video's and it made me make a bass test cd.Well i was listening to it when one of the tracks came on. It started like this

"track 6 subwoofer excursion test, this test checks your subwoofers excursion. In other words to reach rock bottem without botteming out. "

Then it starts hitting different tones dropping incredibly low freq. Well by the time it got just about to the last one I smelt something I did not expect or want to smell. Burning. I quickly turned of cd player and amp. Sub was a bit warm amp was still cool to the touch. Is it possible sucha low frequency could have caused it.

The sub still works fine but I will not listen to that track again. At the end of the track it states. "If your subwoofer has not frozen locked then you can contiune this test.

The amp was set with a dmm, it is a hifonics herc. And I never had that smell on this sub before.
usually those songs, the bass is hotter than regular music, so you coulda been clipping the amp a bit, depending on how long you were beating on it, the dustcap will usually get hot, but ou shouldnt be getting any smell from it

actually notes under tuning can have a lot lower impedance than something that the port is still loading on.

So he could have been getting a lot more current/power than he would have been on most songs.

But i really don't see how a herc could get a btl hot. Neither my hk4000 or mm4000 could do that @ 2.

i have the exact same cd, u probably played it on high volume and the lows in it go below 99%of any box tunning and u probably didnt have subsonic on..ure fine, no worries, if it plays normally

Prolly just working that sub nice......not hurting nothing

Unless you played like a 16hz 0db tone in that song at full tilt and it was makin a WHACK,WHACK,WHACK,WHACK sound haha....your prolly good to go

the question is how much below tunning...and i belive it should say smthg along the lines to turn the volume down a bit or smthg at the begining of the song..havent used that cd in a while..i break my subs in with pink noise now

id send it to u, but my location doesnt do us any favours...pm the op

not sure what u meant by that...and the op's offline so ill probably forget to look for a response lol...anyway u can get it to me over aim or something?
