even if you used a bolt action .308 i dont think it would matter much... atleast the .50 would make a big ole hole + tear up the insides a little

Every one of those rifle rounds has far more muzzle energy than a .50 caliber handgun. What matters is velocity x weight. Look at what an .223 round from a rifle does to a person versus a 9mm (.38) from a handgun. Caliber isn't even half of the equation. High velocity rifle rounds deliver far more internal damage than any handgun.

A .375 H&H has far more energy (4300 ft lbs w/ factory load) than a .308 (about 3000 max) which is more on par with the .30-06 ( about 3300 max) depending upon loading. For reference, a .50 AE handgun cartridge is around 1500 ft lbs, and a .500 S&W is around 2500-3000 depending upon loading (in a handgun that would take a 11 year olds arm off after 1 shot let alone 9). The last test I read for a .500 the writer (bigger than an 11 year old) said he didn't want to shoot it after about 6 rounds because it was burying rubber chips from the grip into his hand.

i have shot a s&w 500 its rowdy it did 3 times the damage to a tree that a 12 guage slug did at point blank range and if the kid knows how to shoot it would not "cause wrist injury ect ect " that gun will bruise the palm of your hand though

its not torture to the pig. no matter what you shot that thing with it would have taken a while to die unlett you taxed it right in the brain but that would only happen with a high powered rigfle witha scope .that kid is a bad *** in my opinion. i would kick my grandmother in the face for a chance to take a shot at that pig.

I am guessing dad killed it and said son did it. I don't see an 11 year old shooting a .50 cal revolver and still being able to move and not on the ground. True for animal, but how it was killed FALSE. I have played with a with .50 and exploded a few squrilles before, trust me, he didn't shoot a .50 cal revolver.

You failed to get my point. I didn't say that a .223 was the right weapon, I used it as a comparison to a typical handgun of a larger caliber, the 9mm (roughly 375 ft lbs). This effectively demonstrates that caliber isn't the only thing that matters since the smaller .223 round has about 3 times the energy.

Each rifle that I mentioned (.375 H&H, .300 win mag, and .30-06) had more energy than the S&W 500, look at the numbers I posted. Many of these slimmer, longer bullets also maintain more energy downrange than large handgun rounds.

Additionally, your third to last sentence supports my point that a handgun is not the tool for the job. Use a rifle with a scope so you can put the bullet where it needs to go. To me, this is the same as taking a gut shot on a deer, irresponsible hunting practice. Use the right weapon for the job (and once you see a half ton pig, the right weapon is the biggest rifle in the hunting party) and take a kill shot (or 2 or 3, but not 9). Look at the head on that thing! Just the head is bigger than most deer, it wouldn't be that hard to hit.
