I didn't do anything!!! I put a kicker 750.1 on one with the gain less then half way up and bass boost all the way down.

looks like a bad recone. coil was rubbing bad, then it probably shorted out.

There is your problem. You don't have to turn the gain all the way up to clip. Unless this was set with a DMM, you very well could have clipped the signal

The sub is rated at 1000 WRMS. It should not clip. I don't see why it would. It didn't sound like it was clipping.

The sub doesn't clip. If you just randomly adjusted the gain, I would not be surprised if you sent a clipped signal to the sub. You really need to set the gain using a DMM

You can burn up just about any coil on 50w if the signal is clipped

The two most likely possibilities have already been mentioned. Possible clipping due to an apparent lack of understanding of how a gain should be adjusted, as the "1/2 way up" comment on the gain setting seems to indicate. The other possibility being a misaligned coil that rubbed and shorted out, as the picture seems to indicate.

I just like being redundant.
