accurate port length

Hello buck, i have a question that i cant seem to get answered. Recently built a box for a 12" shocker sig, 2.9 cubes with a slot port coming out the side using the rear wall.I used the 12volt calculator and ended up with 38.5 Hz, which is what i wanted. right around 3.125x15x 24.5 long

Guy i know has a meter and testing the new box he discovered that it was tuned to or peaked at 35Hz. he said that the port on the rear wall of the box was making the length seem longer.

maybe i cant get an answer cause the way im wording it

Can you provide any kind of drawing? or pics of the box?

no, im sorry but my computer skills and lack of a digital camera hinder that.

Are you familiar with what some call a DD box- the box that they suggest in full size or smaller version, cause that is the exact same box im speaking of.
