I could build you a box for a good price, and expect to pay ~$300 for a used XXX and ~$400-50 for a new one..

Actually, it's my bad, I didn't mean to make a debate which one is better, I wanted to know which was the better purchase for the price. Sorry!

Would the NINe.1's 1200 Watts be good for the SX? I'm just wondering if the few hundred dollars more is worth it...I just wanna be louder than my friends friends 2 JL12w3v2's

eh, it kindof depends on the box...But, 1200 under-rated watts would power it nicely.
In all honesty the XXX is the best sounding sound Ive heard to date, so if your looking to get something really loud and still have a great sound its your best bet...But, I personally would buy the SX because it fits "my" tastes better..
What kind of vehicle do you have...?

If its worth it to add XBL^2 (less distortion) is a call only you and your wallet can make.

Well I have two XXX 15's (new) and two PG Tantrum 1200.1's (bought used), and I have about $1600 in those 4 items. Halve that ($800) to get an idea what you could do.
The box costs can vary anywhere from $25 (cost of a sheet of MDF) if you build a simple system yourself, to over a grand I imagine if you payed someone to build some elaborate enclosure, depending on labor costs, how complex, fiberglass vs wood, etc. Point is its real hard to estimate enclosure cost, unless you build it yourself.
edit: IMO I would rather spend more and get the better sub (not saying the XXX necessarily is, although -IMO- it clearly is, so dont ***** lol) and spend less to get a cheaper amp, if that's what it takes to stay within budget. IOW imo if you want a XXX, you should look at a cheaper amp than the nine.1 if both dont fit your budget.
