Hey, been lurking this board for a very long time and finally got around to registering because I wanted to post about this scam of a company called Elemental Designs.
Last month I ordered two of their Kv.2 series 15 inch subwoofers along with an enclosure and an amplifier to power them from their website.
When the amp and subs arrived everything looked as described and in good order.
The box was delivered two days later and was the first big disappointment. It didn't have a straight cut anywhere and the cuts were jagged.
After being a little heated for a bit that the box looked like garbage but did appear to actually be sealed fromm all angles (amazingly) I decided that it wouldnt be worth the cost to ship it back just for the asthetical issues it had. (i. e. it looked like crap I built when I was 7 yrs old)
Having everything installed by a local shop who I've had other installs done by I hopped in my truck and was furious at first listen. The subs bottom out HARD when fed over 200 watts anywhere below 40hz. They also lose all composure when playing complex program material at any volume level.
Elemental Designs runs a forum much like this one that is accessable through thier website. Having these issues I posted on that forum asking if the subs were faulty or if this was just typical Elemental Design product performance. Within 15 minutes my post was deleted and my I P address was banned. If you check out thier forum it overflows with praise about the products they sell. Go check it out for yourself. Register and then post a comment that you are unhappy with a product, you won't be posting much longer when one of the full time admins finds the post.
My purpose in posting this here is to get the word out that this company is using a suspect forum (albeit there are some actual posters who do just seem to like the garbage they sell) to make people think thier products have a grassroots type thumbs up.
Don't fall for the scam. These products are not quality by any means. The amp constantly overheats, the subs perform like crap, and the enclosure looks horrible. In my opinion they only sell these products online for the lack of being able to find shops that will carry the garbage they push. (And think how crappy some of the the low end stuff at your local shop is . . .)
Please don't think this is coming from an uneducated voice when it comes to car audio. Quickly glancing at the shelves in my garage you'd see several trophies from back when I competed in USAC in the 90's. Quality is a well known concept to me and this stuff is far from it.
Spread the word so other people don't end up a thousand dollars lighter and still have a crappy low end like me, and I'm sure, many others have ended up.
Just wanted to get this out there so nobody else falls for this scam.
Back to lurking for me.
