A noobie question, for a....not so noobie member.

I'm ashamed, I'll admit it. Onto the question though.

Is it impossible to set up a car audio system for multiple styles of music? For example, my stereo sounds fantastic when listening to rock/hard rock, but sounds not so great when I switch to say hip-hop. Or it sounds great when listening to jazz, but sounds like *** when listening to hard rock, etc...

Is it just impossible to set up an audio system to sound just as good when switching from one style of music to another?

Or do I just need to get my lazy *** outside and set the personal eq setting on the HU to each style of music I listen to?

just takes a TON of EQ and very good imaging\tweaking i would imagine.

you might have to tweak the EQ just a BIT. but i suppose its possible. id love to get in a car and hear what real SQ sounds like.

Small world. Not a bad neighborhood, fairly quiet...but honestly I can't wait to get out of here, I just hate renting...But I had no choice if I wanted my old house sold....it was either sell it and rent for a year, or stay and possibly not sell the old house in time.

I really don't want 2 mortgage payments.

heh i'd recommend the sony, cdx-f7000...it has 7 EQ presets for any kind of music. push one button to get the preset you want...or you can set up a custom preset. i was able to EQ it so it sounds good across the board...but then again, this is the same unit thats giving me trouble when i use XM...

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to have a system that sounds good no matter the music... Sure, exaggerated bass may sound good in some genres and bad in others, but that can be solved with a three second setting change on the HU. My system sounds pretty good all around, does good with rap, good with rock, good with trance/techno, just have to turn the bass down a bit sometimes. I'll admit though, some midbass drivers would help some for the electronic music that has it's beat above 80 hz

Well, for good all around...a lot comes with speaker placement, box style, and power. I believe i have a great all around setup with CDT ef61-cfi w/ upgraded 560 xover and 1" silk tweets. Especially as far as EQ...even mess around with your onboard EQ (if you have one in ur HU, which is what i did.) I only slightly adjusted of few things, BUT i used the defeat option on my HU also. As far as a box, sub wise i'd go ported tune low...like 32-28hz. This keeps your SQ excellent while still having that boom needed to make the hip-hop sound good. So, that's what i recommend b4 getting an external EQ. peace

I'm pretty sure some upper line Digital EQ's have the ability to change whole eq settings, so with the press of a button you could switch from rock to jazz. There are pricy though, I believe audiocontrols DQX can do it.

I can change whole eq settings on my Alpine, but I have to go in and set it up on each style of music and individually adjust the eq, then store it.

I'm not going to worry about it too much until I upgrade my front stage though.
