A NOOB Simple Question

it depends on what amp, though.

kenwood amps actually have bass boost center frequency and boost on the remote.

and some actually over-ride the gain controls (bad) instead of just attenuating (good)

So you guys turn yours all the way up, then gainmatch the amp with a MM, then when you want to turn it down you just turn the bassknob down from full?

Do RE12.1's come with bassknobs? Viper 1200.1s?

Yes, thats how you would do it.

I dont know about the 12.1, but the 1200.1 does include a bassknob...

i think xlube's right, it depends on what amp
Some have a bass boost EQ, like the JL slash series amps and Rockford Fosgate amps.

Some are an external gain control, like on the Kicker KX2500.1

Two different things. Although, if the Q is adjustable on the EQ, you can set it wide enough to act very similar to a gain knob.

Use it and run a test tone at 50 hz and find out where your head unit clips then back it off 1 notch then turn up your remote thing and see if ya get the rated power the manufacture said, you should, since the term "rms" is really a continuous sine wave and that's how they measure amps if ya didn't know //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.
