i love my 860. it is the BEST sounding H/U i've ever owned. but sure you start adding external 30+ band eq's and all that other good chit, you could make ANY h/u sound better.

some people say that they hear a difference between a deck with/without a built in amp. personally i don't see how you can if you don't even hook it up.

Its sony, no way ide call that for audiophiles. Check out the alpine f1 status, or an high end elclipse hu. Or the flagship pioneer hu. Sony as an audiophile car audio company //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif dont make me laugh.

sony z-50 made in 1998 or 1999 is equal to AT LEAST the f1 status. c-90 - xdp4000 is a little behind the f1 but its not the deck that holds it back its the xdp because its a mug to tune (people say you cant do this or that with it but in reality if you dig into all the features you can get pretty dang close to about anything u want) still would take the c-90 combo over the eclipse but id take eclipse over anything alpine ( i know the f-1 status is good but i spent close to 1500 in alpine head units and they never last for me) durability issue

the new sony's have alot higher quality transport and internals than the regular explode series. sony got tired of being called "junk". trust me if they wanted to come out with a bad assed deck they could but they are driven by the almighty dollar. high end lines usually lose money if not done/placed right in the manufacturers line up. in sony's case es was its own entity which made itmore expensive to produce.

tis what i was thinkin. Sony has become so large now they cant really focus on building quality products anymore, they have to focus on just building, and when that becomes an issue, more capitol is spent on increasing profit and not increasing satisfaction.

to an extent the $ they spent on just es alone is probably more than alpine has spent in ten years on r and d lol. bottom line is they are so big that every bottom line matters because they sell bulk cheap.
